Yeah, their explanation doesn't make much sense. Especially when his appearance has been constantly teased in the armor in prior installments.

It still would be a fanboy thrill to see him in his armor, maybe at the beginning, if they show him still acquiring the Infinity Gems/Stones. We'll have to see and, as always, hold out judgment but, hopefully, gain excitement as the movie draws closer!

We've already seen him in his armor so I don't get all the poo poo'ing over this. He's clearly a central character in this film which means different looks for different occasions/reasons. His iconic armor is still a part of his attire and central to his character, I'm sure he'll don it again when appropriate. I find it comical that some purists have a problem with this as they're basically complaining that Thanos is being fleshed out on screen.

It doesn't bother me one bit but I still think it's going to be jarring for most. Audiences have been shown nothing but teases of this all powerful villain with a cetain look. I expect most unaware of this change will wonder why he the change was needed at all.

Since this appears to be a double movie it maybe likely that he will be in in more iconic costume in the second movie.
