OK, I'm confused. There isn't a brunnete, but a black haired/raven girl. So why are people picking brunette?!

Brunette is both black and brown hair.

It actually backs up both of our claims!

If you read this portion of the definition. It is what I am referring.

2. (of a person) having dark hair and, often, dark eyes and darkish or olive skin. –noun
And the word in French means brown I agree! But in English colloquially it means the both brown and black.

Especially here in the states!

yeah well, in the States you can't even spell colour properly, so forgive me if I don't hold American English to a very high standard
