I'm sure you noticed that the shadow on his face is on the left side and the horse/rider shadow is on the right.  I appreciate your kindness in not mentioning it. 
Course in China things are sometimes in reverse to what they are here so this may be a natural phenomenon.

I just figured it is a rare phenomenon caused by the sun setting, tidal conditions, volcanic dust in the air, and unusual cloud formations.
