I don't doubt the 1/4 is impressive in person, but the photos aren't lying either. Aside from the dopamine release from seeing a large piece in the real world, I don't see how that could improve my perception. Heck, I've seen some of their other pieces in person and my impression actually worsened (a couple of their most popular Batman statues have really cheap-looking bases in real life, almost like painted foam).
Presence is important, but for some people, the paint app will be the only thing they see. For myself, that's the ultimate mark of a high-end piece. The factory doesn't have the power to mess up a good sculpt and pose, at least not usually. Those are already locked in by the talented artists working in-studio. But the paint app? That's the last frontier and it's entirely up to the factory (and/or the company's level of discernment when conducting QC, assuming it does at all). If that comes out well, you've got a company that cares and a piece that looks as expensive as it is.
