Hot Toys give me a clear look at the armor designs than I get from the movies.

Can't believe I'm going to end up with another Pepper Potts figure.

Definitely getting the Rescue, but man, a Jan-Mar 2021 release window is pretty rough. That's a long wait.

I'm expecting 3 Iron Man figures,3 War Machines and 1 Rescue figure.
Well now we know we should only be getting 1x Iron Man figure, 1x Quantum suit Tony, 2 x War Machines (possibly 3 but only if they do the quantum version of the Mark 006), and 1 x Rescue.

In a way I'm glad they didn't have a new Hall of Armor scene with the 35 other "new" Iron Man models.

Given the investment it takes to manufacture diecast figures, I don’t see Hot Toys passing up an opportunity to do a repaint of the WM Mk6 for the quantum suit version. Just like Hot Toys recycled the WM Mk3 for the Punisher War Machine.

does it take more to do diecast than the plastic?

I expect it does. Hot Toys always has a longer preorder to ship time for diecast versus their other figures. You can do more complex shapes with injection molded plastic as it is still flexible when coming out of the mold. Diecast requires multipart molds to do complex shapes. So I think it is the added mold making / tooling time for diecast that add to the time. Plus removing sprues is far easier with plastic. Diecast must be snipped and sanded / ground flat.

Really?

I suppose those are still significantly less expensive than a hot toys figure, but in the case of cars the main body represents the bulk of the die cast material and it's primarily one big piece expect for doors, hood, and rear hatch. Most cars also tend not to come with too much internal electronics, lighting, accessories and internal components. Judging by weight a typical 1:18 scale die cast car weighs about half that of a typical 1:12 scale Hot Toys die cast figure, so there is likely more die cast material in the figure. Not sure what the production run sizes are for either cars or figures, but this also plays into the unit cost. The smaller the run, the higher the unit cost.

Here is a discussion on some of the production issues faced with die cast materials vs resin or plastic.
