Sin city (2005)
Sadly, I did not have a chance to watch a Dame to Kill at the theater so I decided to give the first film a try at home instead. In all honestly, I had never watched the entire movie until now. Only bits and pieces here and there but never as it was meant to be experienced. I can say with all certainty that it is the best graphic novel movie adaptation to date.
The movie is based on the first (The Hard Goodbye), third (The Big Fat Kill) and fourth (That Yellow Bastard) books of the Frank Miller's Sin City series. The non linear story divided in different chapters throughout is such a magistral exposition of superb scriptwriting and filmmaking. It is one of those rare occasions in which the visuals reflect the book pages so accurately, that it is hard not to marvel at the titanic effort of this well choreographed film.
With that being said, the movie is not without its faults. At times, the dialogue felt over exaggerated. This exaggeration made the film to move at a slower pace in those instances. Some elements of the books like nudity, perversive language, violence and gore were toned down a bit for obvious reasons. A movie with a 100% accuracy of this modern masterpiece would be extremely hard to digest, specially for younger audiences and for those unfamiliar with Miller's work.
All in all, the movie was a great watch. The noir atmosphere, the screen art and the detail are fantastic. My advise to anybody that is interested in watching this film is to read the book series first. That way, you would be setting yourself for a treat.
8.5/10 - Very Impressive
