A Single Man-9/10
Great film! Colin Firth turned in a great performance, great direction by Tom Ford.

Check it out Ryan, it's definitely worth it. I still haven't seen The King's Speech, but this had quite a bit of buzz during last year's awards season. So yeah, Colin Firth is really taking off in a big way these days. Which is really long overdue because he's always been great, it's time he got recognition for the good work he's done.

Wow. I usually agree with a lot of your reviews but this is one I certainly do not. I love this film. While it may not be an overly complex story I find it to be very engaging and intelligent. A gritty depiction of life at sea during the 1800's and the sacrifices made by those that fought on the high seas. Full of emotion, powerful performances, amazing character development and some truly beautiful cinematography. The naval battles are some of the most realistically brutal and strategically clever scenes ever filmed at sea IMO. The whole film felt like a chess match at sea between the opposing Captains.

Or as I like to call it... Sea Trek!
I love this film, and so wished there were sequels, there's a whole bunch of books in this series. It totally reminds me of Star Trek though. The cool captain and the curmudgeonly doctor, seeking out life and new civilizations, while engaging enemies in sea battles.
Love this film!!

Ha, I never though of it like that Tony but you're so right. It is quite reminiscent of Star Trek.
I too would have loved a continuation. It's a brilliant film.

I enjoyed the film so much I contemplated reading the books, but I've never gotten around to it. Would you recommend them?
