Heavy Arms

I don't know for sure if here is the right place for this post, it's my first one... any way...

I'm from Brazil, sculptor
and I'm modeling my superman version, trying to put some weight and tension on his expression and gesture.

Just missing the cape by now, but I'll finish soon...

Please any comments and criticism are welcoming

A sketch pose

Here I cast the torso to be more free to work on the head and arms

Here in casting PU with a base to it, just missing the cape yet,
and I made a option for the head with beard

Hi Ed,

This is the perfect spot for your post, welcome to the forums.

Your sculpt is nice, as far as criticism my take would be that the arms are disproportionate to the rest of the sculpture. Though this is called "Heavy Arms" so I thought that might be intentional. The Head also looks slightly large, but not terribly. I also noticed that your head sculpts have eye sockets but not eyes, is that something you will try to do after?

Thanks for posting!

It seems to be a statement on doing the right thing for a long period of time. I'm getting the feeling that your Supes is an older version and maybe tired of being a hero? I get that from the expression on the brow, the beard and the t-shirt. Maybe the "weight" of being a hero over the decades has worn him down. Even the somewhat rough texture on the sculpt adds to this. If you want to hear my nitpicking, I would say some more refinement in the beard maybe. I like the artsy feel you're giving him so far.

Yes the arms are intentional to be large.

In picture it may looks too much disproportionate, but while sculpting, I realized a large head captive more attention and the arms are to feel the weight and dramatize.
About the eyes sockets, I intend to leave like this, just letting the shadow doing a impression of the squeezed eyes.

You have captured everything, but I wasn't thing about a older supes ( to be honest it's suppose to be super boy, but everyone called superman then I give up) the beard idea just came later.
any way...
My intention was, at the end, I will paint it and put some dirty blood in his hands, just a little bit not too much, and will be like he done something wrong or bad and know he regrets his actions...
broke the boy scout image, you know!?

But yours impressions actually works pretty good even without paint ^^

oh! and thanks by the "refinement in the beard" tip

I'm working on it!

Looks like you’re not too shabby at photography either. Love the shadows, especially in the face. Can’t wait to see this guy painted. (Although he looks good unpainted too)
