Here's my 1st quick-tip on where to find collections of 50's pre-code horror.
Last year I explored the 70's B&W mags of Skywald & pointed out the Gwandanaland books had all of the collected in affordable trades. While you can still find a few of them on Amazon (Scream, Nightmare & Psycho), they're getting harder to find.
Gwandanaland is now publishing B&W collections of many 50's horror books - Tales From The Tomb, Chamber Of Chills, Out Of The Shadows, Adventure Into The Unknown & Dark Mysteries are just some of the titles they've gathered, all for around $20 each, if that. Believe me, the time to strike on these is NOW! I'll talk higher end soon.

Don Heck, co-creater of Iron Man & a well known Avengers artist, also drew a heck of a lot of pre-code Horror comics in the 50's. One of the best, imo, Don could draw a werewolf, vampire, ghost or ghoul like no one elce. Attention to detail with his cityscapes, winter forests, etc... along with his beautiful women, added a Noir feeling to his art. -
In this one, a bald barber steals a dead vampires' hair, transplants the mop on his own head then becomes a vampire himself. Fun!
This guy was so angry after being killed, that he managed to stay animated til his murdered returned & he could kill him -

Thanks, Mr. H. Sparling reminds me a lot of Neal Adams in terms of horror. Very similar styles. We'll see Neal pretty soon.

Lou Cameron, probably the most surreal of the precode horror artists, was an a man who liked to artistically experiment. He had a Ditko/Steranko' style, using shadow subdued dark backgrounds which caused the horrors on the page to really pop. Another one of the greats, IMO.
On a plane surrounded by vampires.
Atmosphere ...SET!

Dick Beck - Don't know too much about this artist other than, he could really draw. He drew a tale called Horror Of Mixed Torsos, which is one of my absolute 50's faves. He drew for a book called Dark Mysteries (& others) pre code.
His Witch art was fantastic -
