Some older movies have a new least of life on Blu-ray, and look so much better than the DVD. That said, some Blu-ray's fail to look much better than the DVD release, as the original source wasn't all that in the first place.
On 1080 TV's while some DVDs look great, some look rather poor, which makes no sense, as as far as i am aware, all DVDs use the same resolution, the only limitation being the source material.
If you own a large 1080 TV and a decent sound set up, Blu-ray is the way the go. The audio for one is uncompressed.
