Iowa Comic Con 2013 Haul

It's small, it's local, it's 1 day, it's fun!

First up is Jason Pearson Magneto.

Up next is a new theme book I started at the show. If you're a kid from the late 70's early 80's you may remember something called The Mighty Men & Monster Maker from Tomy. It's a simple concept. You have 3 plates: 1 head, 1 torso, 1 legs. You get a sheet of paper, put it on the plates, use a crayon to create you're own original character! I always try to look for something fun/different for artists to draw.

1st one is by Aaron Gillespie writer of Bionic Man.

2nd is by Zach Howard artist on Wild Blue Yonder.

I'm definitely excited to keep this theme book going.

Love the theme! It's so original!

Do the artists get to see the template options?

Oh and Mags is pretty sweet too

Oh yes, they all get to choose their own designs. There are 18 total plates with different features on each side.

Holy freaking crap in a hat, I loved that thing when I was a kid. Wish I still had it now. Awesome idea. So what exactly did you have them do? You did the crayon drawing and they drew their version of it?

Nope. 100% their creation. They picked all aspects of the character they wanted to create and draw in the book. Most fondly remembered the toy so they had a blast!

I loved the Mighty Men and Monster maker!!! I had a blast creating my own heroes and monsters, then would think up their name, powers and origin. Too much!!!
