Edgar Rice Burroughs books, free on iTunes

I'd never looked over iTunes' book selections until this past weekend, and what I found was a real surprise. They have plenty of older books for which the copyright has expired, including quite a few by Edgar Rice Burroughs, and certain editions are available for free. Most of the public domain copies have no cover image, so after downloading them, I hunted for scans of the old Ace paperback covers by Frazetta, Vallejo, and others, and added them to the files. Now I have a good-sized selection of ERB with all the classic covers from my childhood - Tarzan, John Carter, Pellucidar, etc..

Also found freebies from Talbot Mundy, William Hope Hodgson, H. Rider Haggard, Ambrose Bierce, HG Wells, and Jules Verne.

I knew about the availability of classic lit, but I had never thought to look for sci-fi or fantasy titles. While I'm all for hard copies, many of these books are long out of print. I found 3 Fu Manchu books by Sax Rohmer, Gulliver of Mars, and quite a few lesser known works by HG Wells, Arthur Conan Doyle, and Bram Stoker. There just aren't many publishers out there willing to take a risk on some of this stuff. Bison Press/U. of Nebraska was putting out quite a bit for several years, but I think even they've given up.
