WWII and Mafia books

I'm a big WWII history buff. I like reading about those lives and events during that time.

What are your favorite WWII history books if you read them?

I've read most of the Stephen Ambrose WWII books.

Also, I'm looking to start reading some real life Mafia history books. Can anyone recommend some good ones?

I subscribe to a Great WWII magazine called America In WWII. Published 6 X's a year, it's choc-a-bloc full of stories, articles and 1st hand accounts of both battles and home-front information. A great mag!
under $20 a year.
My favorite, WW2 book, so far, is Seven Roads to Hell A Screaming Eagle at Bastogne by Donald Burgett.
This guy was a kid in the 101st Airborne Division and recounts his experience while fighting the Battle of the Bulge. I couldn't put it down.
close 2nd -
Another River, Another Town A Teenage Tank Gunner Comes of Age in Combat - 1945 by John P. Irwin.
When you read it, you're there.

I always loved the Movie, "Battleground" with Van Johnson.
I may have to try to get that book.

You won't be sorry. I'm pretty positive that all of Burgett's books on WW2 have been issued in pbk, so they shouldn't be that costly.

Love the description where the Infantryman is so blinded by darkness, smoke and fog that he has to reach out and feel for the idling German Tank's soft side with his fingers in order to know where to shoot at it w/ hiz bazooka.
