Alien Isolation

Are we finally going to see a decent game based on this franchise? It certainly looks promising...

Cross country skiing is great if you live in a small country.

It looks good. Walking around with no weapon and only a motion detector seems really intense. Hopefully they can deliver on more than just the looks.

Yeah, it's a nice change to the usual dumb run and gun format the franchise has been lumbered with so far. I'll watch this one with keen interest without getting my hopes up too much, I just wonder if it would get tedious throughout an entire single player campaign. I guess that depends on a lot of things we haven't seen yet.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Remember when Aliens: Colonial Marines trailers looked awesome a few months before it launched.....yeah. Shiny trailers are even more misleading now than ever before IMO. I'm expecting utter s*** from this game that way I won't be disappointed if it sucks, and even more overjoyed if it's good.

Silly idea, and completely antithetical to the tone and approach of the original film.

The original creature in Alien doesn't chase anyone - not once. That was part of the film's true power and appeal: the creature slowly unfolded itself before its victims and dispatched them. Bolaji Badejo (in the creature suit) took mime and tai-chi lessons to slow down his movements.

The whole 'aliens chasing me' deal is specific to the sequels, and was a monster movie cliche that Alien wisely avoided.

While I agree with your description of the first film, this is a game ultimately and compromises always have to be made when it comes to accuracy and keeping the player engaged. If the game had an Alien that you didn't see at any point right up until it jumps out and bites your face off it wouldn't be much of a game at all and most people would be put off of it however unfortunate that may be. They are already taking a chance by not starting you off with an assault rifle blinged out with scopes, muzzle break and shot gun attachments etc, a good decision imo. Also, this isn't the original big chap, he died, we don't yet know the origins of this Xeno, it could be more warrior like. I am not holding my breath too much of course, but I'll be watching the development of this one with interest.

All fair points, Python. I guess I'm too attached to Alien, but you're right - it wouldn't make for the most exciting game (or a game with clear FPS origins, at least).

Yeah, It's a franchise close to my heart as well which is why I hope it is great... but again, I'll keep my expectations low
