qz33, this is a discussion forum so, by definition, no entry in this or any thread is intruding, unless it breaks the forum rules in some way. I was looking for a story-based explanation for Dracula’s altered appearance in Marvel comics from his 1970s look. Your posting furthers the common thought here that it was editorial mandate rather than a story-based explanation.

When The Hulk changed from green back to grey, there was a story-based reason. When The Thing’s hide became even more rocky and armored, there was a story-based reason. When the Scarlet Witch went mad, there was a story-based reason. When The Vision’s skin and costume became white, there was a story-based reason. Dracula’s appearance as an Eastern European, black haired and black caped and garbed vampire changing to a long white haired, pony-tailed, red armored and caped character has NO reason based on ANY story.

So Robert Eggers is doing a version of Nosferatu. Just thought I'd throw this in here. I'm down for one of his films just about anytime.

Robert Eggers is a talented director who makes sophisticated films. He can reach to the art level, so i will see his Nosferatu in theathers for sure.

This still bothers me. As a die-hard fan of the ?70s Tomb of Dracula series, this still bothers me.

Sigh.

I agree. Their earlier Dracula was a classic monster who could step in and menace Marvel's heroes while staying pretty true to the character. Now, they've turned him into a generic guy who wears armour and fights with a sword who (oh!) happens to be a vampire!!! Ain't he cool??? Ugh!

I have the Tomb of Dracula omnibus volume 1, the reprint. I wish they would do the other volumes.

I still suspect that Marvel turned Dracula into someone similar to the Francis Ford Coppola movie version because they believe that's the one younger generations are most familiar with as opposed to the classic version in the older films.
