Both can be sprayed through an airbrush, btw.

Is the Tamiya clear the same as the Tamiya clear gloss colors? I use the gloss colors for candy coating alclad, but then allways seal them with future floor wax.

I think they are the same formula as the clear gloss but just have tints added.

Dan do you usually seal the clears up after painting them on?

No--I consider the Tamiya a finish coat. I usually use it for eyes and apply it at the very end of painting. If I want to apply a slight sheen to skin, hair or some certain article of clothing, I will dilute some Future with thinner and use that.
If I want a high-gloss on something like PVC boots or whatever, I will spray on undiluted Tamiya clear. Works great.

I love it. It gives a nice, shiny, "wet" look. Plus, after you apply it and it dries, you can buff it to make it shinier!
In the first pic I was going for a rusted, damp, metal look and in the second, I wanted a polished marble effect. The pics don't convey how great it looks, but IMO, it is waay better than any clear gloss coat.

Just a quick question for anyone, can you add a color to future and create the same effect as you get with the colored Tamiya clears? I was thinking this would give a lot of choices, especially as a color overcoat to Alclad for colored metallic finishes. If you can, what paints mix best with future?

Yes. I use tube watercolors as the pigment in those is ground finer that a lot of other paints, but you can make any acrylic paint transparent by thinning it with Future. The paint will be really thin, so you will need to spray at a low pressure on your airbrush (10-15 PSI).

Another advantage of Future is it seems more stable than Tamiya. Something about the formulation of Tamiya makes it get very gummy and thick as it starts to dry. Future doesn't seem to have this problem.
I will still use Tamiya Clear for very high-gloss applications such as glossing eyes, topcoating blood, etc.
But Future rocks in most other applications. I've even taken to spraying a thin coat of Future as an overall protective coat at the end of the evening to cut down on how much Dullcote I use. I just Dullcote the kit the next morning to cut the gloss.
