In 1983 Marvel Age 12 released the first printed version of the new Spiderman costume predating ASM 252 by a few months getting fans ready for what would be a controversial but famous costume design change for the better part of the 1980s . After Marvel bought the idea from a fan they forwarded concept to Mike Zeck who did a rough prelim sketch . Final task was given to Rick Leonardi where he did complete character render for print in Marvel Age 12 ( first app of prototype black suit design ) . The initial idea was black suit with bloood red spider emblems and web shooters but in last hours leading up to print in ASM 252 the colours or red were bleeding into black leaving a muddy image . It was decided to omit the red colour leaving white and the rest is literally history .
