Semi-Comprehensive Rogue Reading List
To give myself something to do while I wait on an XM Rogue to compare to the latest SS Rogue, I decided that I will start the lengthy journey of reading/re-reading every comic I can find with Rogue to get a comprehensive look at the character.
This topic may only be of interest to me, and may take years to finish, but it will be a nice side hobby while I wait on new statues. I'm going to mostly focus on meaningful Rogue content and skip over issues where she doesn't appear or only is shown in the background.
SPOILER ALERT - also included are brief summaries of Rogue's role in the issues. Hopefully these aren't too bad as some of this content is almost 40 years old.
Rogue's Appearance: Original Outfit
1. Avengers Annual 10 – First Appearance of Rogue, Absorption of Ms. Marvel’s Powers, Battle against the Avengers.
2. Uncanny X-Men 158 – Rogue battles Storm, Wolverine, and Nightcrawler at the Pentagon. Absorbs Wolverine and Storm.
3. Uncanny X-Men 170 – Rogue runs away from Mystique.
4. Uncanny X-Men 171 – Rogue joins the X-Men.
5. Uncanny X-Men 172-173 – Rogue joins Wolverine in Japan. Wolverine voluntarily allows Rogue to absorb his powers.
6. Uncanny X-Men 175 – Rogue battles “Dark Phoenix” and aborbs Professor X’s powers.
7. Uncanny X-Men 178 – Mystique infiltrates the X-Mansion to get Rogue to come home. Rogue convinces Mystique to let her stay.
8. Uncanny X-Men 179 – Rogue, at high risk to herself, absorbs Colossus’ power to save him. Rogue finally gains the team’s trust.

As a complete aside, this project has been eye opening for other reasons.
Like watching Kitty Pryde drop the N-word to an African American guy who calls her a mutie.
And Colossus nearly touching Rogue. Wolverine is like "don't touch her - her powers" and Colossus actually says "I forgot."

Thanks for checking in - I was afraid I would end up talking only to myself
Kitty's N-word bomb was in Uncanny X-Men 196 (1985).
I would need to search for the issue where Colossus said he forgot what Rogue's powers do. It was just an awfully poorly written moment. I know it's in one of the earlier issues, but I laughed out loud when I read it.
EDIT: Found it. Uncanny 188. It turns out it was Storm who reminded him. I will attach a pic.
He also forgets again and almost touches her during a training room session and Rogue had to pull away from him.
This was way before the "sometimes Rogue's powers don't work on Colossus" phase they had when they contemplated having them hook up.

Hehe, I was going to chime in earlier, but I didn't want to mess up the formatting you laid the groundwork on. I'm glad you added the reserved spots and then commented afterwards... I figured it was fair game then!
Very cool stuff... I need to re-read that whole run. I don't have any of my old X-men comics, so I'll have to invest in some collected editions. Hopefully they'll mix the regular run with the complimentary stories (the ones where they had issue reprints in the front and new stories expanding characters in the back).

I subscribed to the Marvel Unlimited App. It's $60 for a year and very convenient. It doesn't have everything - which is why I'm missing Rogue's appearances in Dazzler's 80's solo - but it has quite a bit.
Added last night's reading. My favorite random Rogue moment was:
19. Uncanny X-Men 201 – Rogue flies up to the President of the USA’s plane, and leaves a lipstick kiss on the window. The President comments that it’s best they keep the incident a secret.
I can see why they contemplated having Rogue hook up with Colossus. They have them teamed up a lot in the 80s, something I've missed as someone who got into X-Men in the 90s. I also didn't realize that Rogue fast-ball specialed both Colossus and Wolverine a few times.
Still shocked that Sabretooth not only managed to knock Rogue unconscious, but also cause her to be wearing a sling over her arm later in the issue. Doesn't particularly make sense.
Other observations:
1. Cyclops is a horrible husband during this era.
2. More "shocking" language by today's Marvel/Disney standards, as Magneto's attorney is called a "slut" on panel.
3. X-Men's role as outcasts seems are more dire in this era with a lot more open bigotry and hate crimes against them.
Can't wait to read more!
