LOL - you know DVDs didn't exist when 3 hit - and when 4 came out it was still a brand new technology - maybe 2 people in the world had players...

Straight to VHS..... actually straight to the trash can, I cringed watching Superman 3, and only watch about 1/2 of Superman 4 before getting up and leaving

Finally saw this film yesterday!
And I loved it!!!
Amazing fighting scenes, and totally different superman to the last films we have seen. A more modern true to life Superman.
I agree to have the Superman from the comics would have been too cheesy.
And I love all the Easter egg pop ups in the film, here is a good link to check some of them out.

"After setting a new opening weekend record for the month of June, Man of Steel ended the month in the top spot with $248.6 million. It's already out-grossed 2006's Superman Returns ($200 million), and despite a steep second weekend drop it's still in line for a final total around $300 million. Add in strong overseas grosses (it should get to $400 million) and this is a major win for Warner Bros."
7.6 million away from passing the domestic take for the Amazing Spider-man for 10 place all time amongst superhero films. This was kind of my bar for success for this film as Spider-man is the most popular comic-book character with the my generation and the current one according to an article I read a year or two back.
