You guys (..and girls) who have your comics slabbed, don't you feel you are incarcerating your comics forever?
Presumably you read them first, or maybe not, for the types that want the highest grades.
Myself, i own just one slabbed comic that i will never get to read, as i purchased it as slabbed. I purchased it purely for the cover art work, signed by both Margot Robbie and Greg Horn, as it featured cover art by Greg Horn
Who knows, maybe some day it will be worth a fortune?
Price up or down, i like the slab for what it is.

You can read comics electronically or get cheap readier copies. You don't have to read the particular copy you have slabbed. And yes, most times it is a financial decision.

"Entombed in plastic" as some would say Many issues I've already read in trade paperback form, but mainly I like to have comics slabbed or buy them that way for several reasons. I like the aesthetic, they look great when displaying alone or with related collectibles like statues. A slab also offers a certain amount of protection, added value, and an independent grade that most people can agree on that makes selling easier down the road if I want to move some out of the collection. I don't speculate much, so the cover art is the biggest factor for me most of the time, but other factors like rarity and key criteria (1st appearances, etc.) will definitely play a role.

Before CGC, buying gold/silver/bronze age comics was a crapshoot. Unless you were very good at spotting restoration, you could end up paying multiples of a books real value. With CGC, you can be assured that a book is unrestored, or, if restored, you know exactly what was done to the book, and make a better decision about its value.
