Were the Invaders cool or weak as a book?

I'm taking about the original Invaders from the 70's. Good read? How was the art? FRANK SPRINGER was the artist, and not really familiar w/ his work.

I really liked it. The art is classic, does not stand up to most of todays artist, but I was able to look past it. The New Invaders had a good concept, but Marvel just reactived it so that they could keep the rights to the name. Really disapointed in how the new series developed and quite glad they killed it. I really don't know why they would do something half assed with such a good concept.

Furie, this was a GREAT book. Roy Thomas was the writer at the beginning. As Mike says, the art does not stand up by today's standard but some would argue the same of Kirby and other greats. I really liked the art and bought every issue, starting with Giant Sized Invaders #1 and then the regular series.

Some of the conflicts between Namor and Master Man are great, and the issue when Hitler summons Thor to fight the Invaders is one of the best. Like with the Avengers, Cap was the heart and soul of the team and had quite a task keeping the Torch and Sub-Mariner from killing each other. I really, really enjoyed this book.

One correction, though, is that the artist was Frank Robbins, not Frank Springer.

Who was Frank Springer, WK? Is he another Marvel Artist?

Frank Springer was a Marvel artist, but also drew for DC and did some work on the Terry and the Pirates newspaper comic strip. For Marvel, I remember he did some work on the Tomb of Dracula annuals and drew Marvel's GI Joe comic series for a long time. Don't recall much about him, Marvel-wise, beyond that.

Joe, I think that Springer did do some work on the Invaders. I may be wrong, but for some reason that seems to ring a bell.

Maybe, doesn't ring a bell. But, for sure, the piece furie was looking at was done by Frank Robbins.

Did a little research......Frank Springer was the inker for Frank Robbins. Whew!!! That was going to drive me crazy!!!!!

A great book without a doubt. Frank Robbins art is an acquired taste i believe, but the first twenty issues or so are excellant.
