Scanners for art boards?
Seeing all the great art lately, I'm wondering what all of you are using to scan your art boards?
I have a 3-in-1 Canon photo printer, but the scan bed is only 8.5 x 11. I end up scanning in parts and trying to photomerge, but at times the merge puts in a really ugly shade/black bar at the junction. Plus sometimes pencils don't show up well and adjusting for curves/levels jacks up the scan.
Is there an 11 x 17 scanner that won't break the bank or at least something that can be fed rather than laid down for scanning?

If you do some searches you will find some good threads on this topic. I nearly bought a Brother multi purpose machine a few years ago as they seem to be the best scanner that won’t break the bank.

I would only buy a flat bed scanner – the Brother version will accommodate art up to 11x17 which would cover nearly all of my collection.

Thanks for the link! The flat bed is probably the best way for me, I agree, feeding something means potentially trashing it. I'll look into those Brother multipurpose ones or at least a dedicated scanner. Not sure my office setup can accommodate another multipurpose.

I took a quick look and it appears they might have something that can accommodate 11x17 paper (flat) for 150 shipped - pretty good deal IMO
good luck - interested to see what you go with

Is this the one you're referencing?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-885-_-Product
Will have to price match with a local store as I want to be able to take it back if there's an issue. What's crazy is that these multi-functions are coming in cheaper than standalone scanners.
Hopefully final question on this matter: is 2400 optical dpi sufficient if I'm scanning art to send to an inker (whether they print to ink, then send to someone to hand color or do digital inks/color)? That's what I'm finding in this price range. Thanks!

I think that is the same one I saw on Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Brother-Printe...rother+11+x+17
no clue about DPI - that is a good question. I would want one that can do the same if I want to get a penciled piece inked up.

I got one of those Brothers with the larger bed. That thing rocks! I think it was $160 shipped off Amazon.
