That’s what I’ve read previously, but it seems those face scans only go so far. How many times have Prime 1 had to adjust the prototype sculpts.
And I was under the impression that the Hot Toy headsculpts are all hand sculpted, and quite a few of them are extremely well done. But for all I know they use scans as well, but only as a starting point.

My main gripe is proto vs production. With SS i have no choice but to wait for in hand images to surface.
My SS pre_order days are over. If SS could up their game and match XM, Prime 1, Hot Toys, i'd pre_order Catwoman, Domino, Aquaman now. For the moment i have 4x PF's on pre_order, and it's fingers crossed they turnout good.

I preordered the regular locally where there is no NRD, but I would never preorder a Sideshow piece directly from Sideshow where it’s a movie based piece where likeness is key. Because the chances of the production piece failing are too damn high for my liking. They have far more misses than they do hits when it comes to actor likenesses in their final production pieces.

Other issues could arise. The gold color can be a problem for factories (for some reason?). The colors on the Aquaman base has to be done right. Then there's the fabric pants - they look difficult to recreate. Hot Toys have no problems with fabric, as it's their thing. Other companies, the factories they use, they struggle. My recent PCS Chun-Li Alpha 1/3 - the screw up the way the top was made - terrible. I'm still struggling with Sideshow/PCS to get the problem fixed.

All very true. It’s just that for me the biggest and most important issue is the actor likeness, but failing that at least be painted well enough that any flaws an be forgiven. So many of the MCU/DCEU facesculpts have had terrible paint application on the head. I just hate when the paint app is either too thickly or simply applied to be taken seriously. But the recent Jyn Erso was very well done imo. But that’s more of an outlier than a true possibility.
And honestly I’ll probably be more forgiving on other issues, if they succeed on what I consider most important.

I'm seriously considering picking this one up, but that hairline continues to bother me. His hair just doesn't look like it's connected to his head.

Yeah, I think I'll just have to wait and see. I suspect the EX will still be available when we first see a production piece.

its too bad because aside from that its one of the better momoa likeness' out there, better than hot toys and P1 imo. if it helps it would be a super easy fix for someone to connect the hair line to the head and touch up the paint on the hair
