Nah, I don't think so. I think the sculpt and pose will have a lot to do with it.

This Thanos on Throne would not have sold so quickly or for so much if the sculpt and pose were not exceptional.

SSC knows now that if they put all their resources and efforts to make a spectacular statue of a great character, then it will sell for a high price. But they should also know now that if the in-hand pieces come out not looking like the prototype, that a lot of people will be asking for their money back.

Of course sculpt and pose will matter still. This sold because it was so well designed and executed. People wouldn't have paid what is universally agreed to be a very high price otherwise.
