Well the other thread wasn't allowing any spoiler of any kind. There wasn't anything to discuss, so this thread was created/resurrected.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if Martin is still figuring out how it will all end.

There is talk that if Martin doesn't speed his act up, the series will do what it wants to do and the books might go a different way.

Example -- True Blood did the same thing. It sometimes worked out for the better.

with2 books left I don't see any possible way he can be done before the show catches up, Aria, Bran, Rickon & Sansa will all be in their 30's if HBO waits for him

This is why I think HBO needs to slow down and mine the material more. Between the time the TV series started and where we are at now you could have easily generated at least 2 more 10 episode seasons from the material in the books. It puzzles me as to why they aren't doing this since they aren't tying individual seasons to a specific book but rather bundling it all together as Game of Thrones.

'Game of Thrones': No wedding ratings gift

http://insidetv.ew.com/2013/06/04/ga...dding/?cnn=yes

Quote:
Game of Thrones may have broken the Internet with Sunday’s episode, but it didn’t break its ratings record.
“The Rains of Castamere” delivered 5.2 million viewers, down slightly from the show’s all-time high set earlier this season of 5.5 million.
The performance isn’t surprising. The episode aired after the show took a one-week break for Memorial Day weekend. And even though it was a highly anticipated hour among hardcore fans, most casual viewers had no idea the episode contained a shockingly violent wedding sequence as HBO intentionally did not promote the episode as anything out of the ordinary to help preserve the surprise. Expect the ratings to rise for next week’s finale, however, possibly to an all-time high.
I think the season finale will set a new record given the events of last week.

I agree with you on HBO stretching it out more, but I don't think they will. This show as great as it is is not the most action packed show, and maybe they think it will drive people away by slowing it down. Having not read the books I don't know if whatever has been left out would make for good tv or not. I have a feeling that at a certain point the show will just deviate from the books.

Is there any indication as to how close we are to the next books release? I know he takes a while, but is there any kind of a time frame?

Maybe they could stop and do a prequel season, ala Spartacus if it gets to that point.

I wouldn't mind seeing the fall of the Mad King.

An interesting idea. Not sure how that concept would be received.
