Wow, I read it can hit 81 degrees F in some rare summer days. I thought it was always below freezing.

Uhh, I saw the movie, Core.. and this might be a dumb question.. does the earth's core rotate to produce an electromagnetic field that protects the surface from radiation? what's mars' core composed of, and does it have a similar protective field?

also it is a mangnetic field not an electromagnetic field

i assume you are refering to this info
The Earth's magnetic field is thought to be due to the liquid iron-nickel which is in its core. This magnetic field protects Earth from constant bombardment by high-energy charged particles
