Bowen Attuma MB Review

Just got in # 121, and I thought I would try my hand at this (yes, I will post pictures later)

The Good Points:

The sculpt overall is pretty good (5 out of 10), it more than adequately represents the character as I remember him from the comics. The body proportions are in scale, as is the musculature and anatomy.

The paint application on mine is more than adequate, though I have heard several forum members complaining about the paint on their pieces.

The Bad Points:

This piece unfortunately does have more flaws than attributes in my opinion.

First and foremost among them is the ridiculously small size of the base in comparison with the size of the figure itself. The base design in and of itself is good, but the size and quality of it make it appear to be an aquarium ornament that was purchased at any local PetSmart.

The next problem with the piece is the blandness of the chest plate. Being such a large portion of the sculpt itself, I think that it would have made for a nicer piece had BD's taken a bit of artistic liberty and placed some sort of design or decoration on the armour. Even though, I'm sure that someone would then have complained about the inaccuracy of it, so I don't suppose that there is a way to win on that front.

The biggest problem that I have with this piece is the angle of Attuma's head. It faces so far downward that unless he's placed on a top shelf, you won't be able to see the face at all, and this piece is simply not top shelf material.

Overall this piece reminds me of a line from Mel Brooks "History of the World"

"Nice, not thrilling, but nice."

You should try and include some pics Jesse but good first review. From the pictures I've seen this looks like a decent bust. 5 out of 10 is average! So this would certainly not figure in your top 10 busts.

Great review jesse!

I agree some, but diverge here (I'm a bit more negative towards it).

1) the way he is holding the sword is very ackward. Doesn't look right at all

2) the sword looks very 80's masters of the universe-ish. Almost seems like plastic. It might be faithful, but it looks aweful.

3) In fact, I go so far to say this is almost a skeletor action figure popped cut in half and propped up on a base.

Yes, BD did a minor character, but take some originality, give it some life, or its just an average (at best) piece like this. I doubt I'll own it very long.

Its just a 2 out of 5 for me.

I'll take pictures when I get home later tonight, I wrote the review while I was eating lunch.

Like I mentioned about the chest plate ... it could have been made to look better, but then you just know that someone would have *****ed that it wasn't faithful to the look from the original books. Unfortunately, I can understand that for Randy (or any other company really) sometimes there's just no way to win, so you just have to do the best you can, which is what I think they did here.

All this being said, I'm very happy that BD's continues to produce these 3rd, 4th and 5th level characters that I personally enjoy so much, as well as the top tier characters that are the money makers for them.

Thanks to you both for the kind words on my first attempt at this.

Just get a hacksaw and some light blue or black paint and you'll get your wish.
