Actual ticket sales, price of tickets, population increases, etc etc
It can make it hard to compare the success of films over decades and decades.

this is all getting a bit silly now, who gives a $hit where it comes in some list, i liked it and that is good enough for me, seems like people are really praying that it becomes the biggest money maker ever and that it wins every award going, because this will somehow justify the fact that we spend so much time on here and other boards talking about who would win in a fight between batman and superman, i mean Ledger did a good job, but his turn as a kook was no better than Pitts role in 12 monkeys

It was a trap! I should've known, no sane person would have made that statement.

TDK will be #1. Inflation adjustments don't matter when looking for #1.
Currently:
1 Titanic...............$600,788,188
2 Star Wars...........$460,998,007
3 The Dark Knight...$441,628,497

I think Jack Nicholson has the gold medal for portraying a kook in "One Flew over the Cookoos nest".
