Did Sideshow really release an unlicensed product for sale? This was up for order before they changed the name. Is this their first custom piece? Nice....

It's so weird that after nearly a year of teasing and releasing for pre order they change the name, and then when they change the name they make a set of cards available on there website with the original name? Makes no sense at all, statue is still killer looking though

Wow, you think Sideshow would have check with there Legal dept first, before announcing this piece as Dejah Thoris.
I'm still happy I pre-ordered, but I have to wonder if this would be considered false advertising, especially since the base won't say Dejah Thoris anymore for legal reasons.

Keeping fingers crossed that some sort of agreement will be worked out between Dynamite and SS before the statue is released so that the name can be restored.
It would be a little awkward to have the base labeled "Martian Princess" since everybody was expecting "Dejah Thoris."
If the new label is permanent, I hope SS would reconsider calling this "Princess of Mars."

As far as I'm aware the Barsoom characters and stories are all in the public domain, but the estate of Edgar Rice Burroughs are basically copyright trolls who previously (and frivolously from what I understand) went after Dynamite as well. I'm not sure the issue would be with Dynamite specifically - Sideshow is probably just trying to avoid trouble with the ERB estate.

It is probable that Sideshow advertised the statue as Dejah Thoris for the pre-order start even knowing that it would go against legal issues and, therefore, already with the intention to change the name of the work.
However it is the best "Dejah Thoris" seen so far, and in any case ..., regardless of the name, how many Martian Princesses do we know?
