I would think a sculptor could clean up pretty well just doing alternative capes for statues especially out of lighter resins. Even if just selling STL files.
Might be tougher on the magnet ones but I bet it could be solved.

Likely you have two main camps of people... those that love the piece so much they don't care about the fabric cape (if fabric bothers them at all to begin with), and those that just won't get the piece due to the cape. You probably have a small (smaller than these two groups already) group of people liking the piece enough, but hating the fabric, that would be willing to spend the time and money to get a sculpted cape printed/made/painted. No one is cleaning up based on that tiny group....

Oh I don't think we're talking about say half the ES but if a well thought out cape drastically improved the appearance I think it would be possible. Lots of statues sell based on the cape alone (appearance not material).
Also being that capes are pretty easy to digitally sculpt. No worrying about portrait, likeness, or anatomy.
I definitely think there would be as many people interested in a custom cape for pieces they already have as are interested in some of the super low run customs.

I wouldn't mind a custom cape for my SS Batman Begins PF.

I had the Bowen years ago, definitely one of their best. My only issue with Sideshow Taskmaster and Deathstroke is the unnecessary depth space, 25" and 21", both could have come with a different arm position to help.
