Yes, WonderCon is in San Francisco. I was able to walk up to Jim Lee and Geoff Johns without much a line and take pics with them. And the Black Lantern Hal and White Lantern Sinestro were much easier to obtain than in San Diego.

Hollywood does show up too. There was special screening and panels for Kick Ass and Resident Evil. And you could walk right into panels like Chuck with no waiting.

so guys this will be my first sdcc (2011). What hotels are good/cheap?

anything to look out for or tips for first timers?

Any hotels near walking distance of the Convention Center will probably be at least $200 a night. Other hotels a distance away are typically part of the bus shuttle service. It's get pricey and very crowded, so save some money and bring patience.
