I fully understand sending it back, despite how disappointing and tough that actually must be. It is the right move, especially to preserve your relationship with Tony.
My criticisms are leveled straight at the artist rep who has not handled this at all well.
On the positive side, I await to see what Tony is going to do for you.

we don't even know if there was a "whale". Everyone is just speculating. For all we know (as mentioned very early in the thread) this could possibly be a charity raffled piece or something completely different than the normal sale piece. Only time will tell if/when we see the piece again
