Thumbs up Ridicuously good, cheap 11x17" scanner for art.

There was a discussion on scanners on the CGC boards. Someone recommended a Brother scanner, and because I don't want to drop ~$2K+ on an Epson Expression, I pulled the trigger. https://www.brother.ca/en/p/MFCJ6530DW

It arrived today and I am stunned at the scan quality -- it's just fantastic.

And the price...$150 CAD until Monday (half off sale). Canadians: sign up for the newsletter to save an additional 15% off that. Also prints 11x17."

Here's a sample scan at 8% magnification (original scan is huge), unedited. 1200dpi, uncompressed TIFF.

Only con is the thing is massive, but it does have wifi, so you can store it wherever you like.

I have not tested it on colour artwork.

Brother makes a great, affordable 11x17 scanner. I've had the MFC-J6510DW for years and it still works great.

Figures. Their little B&W printer is the only printer I’ve ever used that hasn’t broken down or malfunctioned. And all along I thought I had to drop 2k on a good scanner, yeesh!

I ended up with an Epson - WorkForce WF-7620 which is apparently made for small businesses. It does an alright job but I'm kind of frustrated I wasn't able to buy a stand alone flatbed scanner that did 11 x 17. Got it for ~$215 USD while it was on sale, had to have it delivered to my house since the box was so massive I didn't think it would fit in my car.

That brother scan looks pretty good! Makes me wonder why its so hard to get a big scanner for our art needs.

Just a question out there - Do you guys generally have a lot of artwork to scan? As I consider the viability of this purchase, I find myself realizing that much of my artwork is larger than 11 by 17, and more to the point, I don't have that much artwork, i.e., 20-25 pieces, all of which has already been scanned or had decent pics taken of them.

my library has a scanner so I use that one for free - but 150 is a great deal.
