The Other History of the DC Universe by John Ridley

Is there anyone out there who is reading this. I got the first issue a few months ago but am very far behind in my comic reading. The 2nd issue came out this past week. I sat down yesterday and ready both issues and they were fantastic. The first issue focuses on Black Lightning and the 2nd issue focus of Mal and Karen Duncan-Herald(Hornblower, Guardian) and the Bumblebee. Both issues are told in a first person basis of the 3 characters about how they started out, their feelings toward other heroes and how they were treated.

I cannot recommend this more highly and I do wish that we would see John Ridley write a regular series (I know he is doing the Future State Batman book).

I read an enjoyed the first issue.

My biggest gripe is that the writing didnt serve the art. The two were very much separate aspects to the point where it felt more like an illustrated novella. You see this often with prose or screenwriters who arnt used to writing for comics though, so i imagine Ridley will continue to improve.

Overall though, it was a very effecting and thoughtful book that explored areas and aspects you dont see too often in Big 2 superhero books. I'll have to catch-up as im interested in where Ridley will continue to take it.
