Like the title says, I'm curious which hero and/or villain you guys think have run their course in comics, and either don't see the popularity they once did, have never had any fan-base whatsoever, or just.. aren't relevant anymore. If you want to, take into account that a new writer/artist could indeed breathe new life into a title/character.
Also.. which characters, now dead in comics, would you like to see never resurrected (whether because their deaths were meaningful/masterfully-penned or that character was just.. played out)?
Sentry spoiler below:
I haven't been reading Avengers at all lately, but it seems like Bendis (ugh) introduced Sentry for the mere purpose of building him up to a God-level hero-turned-villain for the heroes to unite against, and ultimately kill, in Siege. If he doesn't stay dead, there's problems... that character's storyline is spent.
Planet Hulk spoiler below:
I can be a predictable @sshole and throw Caiera the Oldstrong on this list... her first death was by a nuclear explosion that was orchestrated by others and her loss has emotionally scarred the Hulk for an indefinite amount of time, and her second, final death (in a hugely condensed nutshell) was to save thousands of inhabited worlds from Galactus by allowing him to consume Sakaar.
I do not want to see Caiera come back from death, and she's my favorite character in comics; go figure.
Her deaths were beautifully plotted out and we see the ramifications from them even now; years later.
I think two other masterfully-crafted deaths were Kraven the Hunter and Jack Drake, Tim Drake's father. One was suicide and one was an orchestrated murder... both were powerful.
