Need painting advice

I am going to attempt my own repaint. I am going to convert my Bowen Angel mini-bust to Avenging Angel. Basically all I need to do is change Angel's blue to red and his white to black. Should be easy enough for a first timer!

My question is that on from what I hear I should Dullcote the bust first so the paint adheres better. I normally paint Warhammer and D&D miniatures so I have primer should I use the primer instead of Dullcote?

Bear in mind I will be hand-painting and NOT using an air-brush.

Any other helpful hints would be very much appreciated.

Gotta run!

Definitely give him a shot of the Dullcoat. Since you're only making two changes, I wouldn't primer him at all. The only "hard" part in this (and it's not all that hard) is unless you find a red that is very opaque you will likely need to paint the blue part white before you apply the red. Either that, or apply multiple thin coats to get a good solid coverage. Just paint black straight over the white part. Do you intend to highlight musculature?
