... if you (and your woman, if you found one) ran into more (seemingly-benevolent) people, would you make your presence known to them immediately, or avoid them as it's more mouths to feed/more resources to divvy up?
Personally, I would probably trail them for a few days to try and gauge how they'd react to my showing myself; they could be the nicest people on Earth, but still whip out a rusted 12-gauge and blow my head off as soon as I appear, "just in case".
If they outnumbered us significantly, I'd avoid them entirely.
