Hm, good question. Apparently, it's getting censored for future printings.

I usually don't mind decompressed stories/storytelling, these 4 issues could've probably been compressed into 2 issues. That criticism out of the way, I dig the concept of the story being told so far. Mariko Tamaki had some big shoes to fill after the Tom Taylor run of All-New Wolverine. The characters ring true enough, I just wish there was... I dunno, "more" somehow.

Yes, it is. Comixology has it.

That said...

Batman: Damned #1
DC Comics/Black Label

A very beautifully illustrated book. Once again,
Lee Bermejo knocks another project out of the park. The story is kinda where this fails for me. I like
Brian Azzarello's work, but usually I read his stuff in collected editions so that might be my downfall in my trying to get into this. Even with that in mind, this single chapter feels too flowery and lackadaisical. It's more akin to a poem than a typical plot or character driven story. I'll give the series another chance when the whole story is collected... maybe I will appreciate it more as a completed work.

Pantheon, by Hamish Steele

A wonderful retelling of the Egyptian myths, in a lighthearted yet adult style - although the original myths are very adult, so it only stands to reason. It focuses more on the conflict between Set and Horus, but quite a few deities get their turn. I've read several versions of Egyptian mythology, and they often had marked differences. Thankfully, Steele fashions a cohesive story, from the creation of the world to the departure of the gods from Earth, and the end is very touching. Don't let the simple art style keep you from trying it, as the design and coloring enhance it substantially. Good stuff!

I read the Cleopatra in Space series by Mike Maihack recently.

The artwork is great, and the first book is a strong start. However, the storytelling gets a little convoluted as the series progresses.

There are four books so far. Book Five is scheduled for March 2019.

Hey! My daughter checked out the whole Cleopatra in Space series from the library. I'd been meaning to dip into those.

Return Of Wolverine #1
Marvel Comics

Interesting first issue. Lots of mysteries for Logan and us as readers. The two biggest stand outs for me from this issue is:

1- How much McNiven's art has a strong enough resemblance to Barry Windsor-Smith's (which fits as Soule is crafting a tale that mirrors BWS's Weapon X graphic novel).

2- Masked soldiers are revealed to have a connection to one of Logan's enemies... I don't want to spoil who, but I'll say I've always loved the look and idea of this character even though nobody seems to know what to do with him.

The issue is worth the read, but I doubt I'll follow the series in periodical form. I'll give it another go when it comes out as a TPB.

I agree with much of what you say. The art stands out for having this super detailed painting. However, it sort of feel likes it has such aspirations to be this great lofty narrative that it sort of drags a bit. I admire DC trying things with size of comics and making "R" rated comics with some grounded bloody violence.

I'll see where it goes and other Black Label entries as it is trying something, even if right now doesn't qute reach its goal yet.
