Solo: A Star Wars Story - 8/10

Fun Summer adventure. Probably at the lower end of the SW films for me but I still enjoyed it a lot. Performances were great, even Ehrenreich thankfully. Awesome, unpredictable cameo that straight-up floored me and some great ties to both the PT & OT make this a welcome addition to the SW Universe.

Completely agree. I'd give it the same score as well.

I'm lost. Didn't the film have an opening synopsis of the current climate of the universe before the film even started? I knew what was happening about 15 minutes into the film.

What Happened, Miss Simone? (2015) - A documentary about the life and legend Nina Simone, an American singer, pianist, and civil rights activist labeled the "High Priestess of Soul."

I didn't know much about Nina Simone going in so I thought this was a great introduction to not just her music, but her lifelong struggles. 8/10

Valerian and the City of 1000 Planets

6.5/10

I avoided this like the plague as I'd heard only bad things. I noticed it was on Netflix and had nothing better to do last night so I gave it a chance. I think going in with such low expectations allowed me to enjoy this more than people who went in presumably expecting something akin to, or as good as the Fifth Element (which this isn't) Most of what I've heard about this movie seems a little harsh now I've seen it. Sure the lead is wooden, and Rhianna can't act for s**t, but there's still a fair bit like here. The world building is great and some of the character deigns are a joy to see. It isn't a movie that I'll rush to watch again, but if you like sci fi stuff, and have been avoiding this, it might be worth a watch after all.

Unfortunately, I don’t share your view, gentlemen. In my case, it was the most boring, nonsensical and poorly acted movie I’ve seen in years. Quite disappointing because the visuals were there and I was willing to give it a pass. Oh well.

Scars Of Dracula (Hammer Studios, 1970) 6/10

I remember really liking this Lee' Dracula & probably posted, somewhere in this thread, a higher rating, but I watched this again last night, & it's not as good as I remember. It's definitely the most bloody Hammer' Dracula movie & Chris Lee is, as always, excellent ast the Count, but the movie just plods along at way too slow a pace. There are several too-cool-for-school moments in this film; Dracula's hiding place in this one is brilliant & very clever in a non-obvious way, he uses bats to do much of his dirty-work, which is awesome, the costumes & sets are gorgeous. All that being said, the start-stops throughout the film are deadly. It just seems to take forever for this one to get going & once it does, it just bogs on down. There were just 2 more Lee Dracula's after & both finish out the series a lot stronger than Scars. Of course, see it. It's a link in a great chain, but Scars bumps down on my list to probably the worst.
