The true definition of a classic. NotLD’s influence is unquestionable. Despite it’s age and low budget it’s still an affective horror film and it’s not so much due to the zombies themselves but the atmosphere of impending doom Romero creates. The use of news broadcasts to inform the survivors that the world has ended as they know it makes the claustrophobic setting feel all the more hopeless, creepy and disturbing. One of my favorites.
Agreed - a true classic!

Do yourself a favor and pick up the Criterion Blu-ray which was restored by the Museum of Modern Art and The Film Foundation. After suffering for years as a public domain title the film has finally been done justice and never looked better.

The Snowman 3/10

Boy I don’t know what happened with this one. Had all the makings of what looked like a good noir thriller on the surface. Concept was interesting enough. Cast is stellar with the likes of Michael Fassbender, JK Simmons and Rebecca Ferguson. Cinematography and atmosphere are excellent! All that said it’s a complete misfire on the execution of the narrative. Probably a good story in there somewhere but ultimately what we get is one of those films that thinks it’s way smarter than it actually is and ends up being more of a pretentious mess than anything.

Not terrible but I have to be a book snob on this one. If you have read the book none of the 4 or 5 attempts to convert this one into film really hold up very well.
I haven't read the books and I doubt I ever will since I can't imagine a world where I don't picture or hear David Suchet.

Which is what happened here. I felt the TV movie with him was far better than this... why did it need so much CG?

Mandy - 8.5/10

Wanna know what happens when you blend Heavy Metal Magazine and Grindhouse Cinema with an artistically gifted director that specializes in creating surreal atmospheres? You get Mandy! One of the most creatively unique horror/thrillers I’ve EVER seen. Nic Cage delivers one of the best performances of his career. This is a trippy, haunting, nightmarish revenge picture. Worth checking out for the visuals and score alone but the fact that you get a biker gang that looks like something ripped directly from Hellraiser and a duel with chainsaws makes this an experience like no other. This most definitely wont be everyone’s cup of tea but I loved it. I highly recommend it to anyone into creatively different forms of cinema.
