I agree, without back story, no context, and so, how can a statue tell us a story just with a girl and a gun...
We can settle a scene and an atmosphere with some elements on the base, the beginning of a story that we can imagine then...
About the pose, she can fired, hidden behind a hydrant... Well, I am joking, but you get the idea. The pose hasn't to be complicated.
I falled in love with the sculpt of Hawkgirl. Of course, there is a context, story etc... But I don't think it's necessary to have them. I think with a little bit of imagination and some anatomical knowledge, you can obtain something really " not very often seen".
