I love him but it seems like every time there is a role for a black actor his name is thrown into the hat.

I agree, he's the go to guy these days. I love MKW, but I get more of a Manta vibe from Idris though. I'm just glad Will Smith is otherwise occupied, although he was good as Deadshot.

Idris is too old for Black Manta, but I also don't think he's the right choice for a villain like Black Manta. He has a very regal presence and I feel like he'd be more suited to a king or someone of power. Noody comes to mind at the moment though.

Atlanna is not that important to Aquaman's mythos, is she? I'm only really familiar with the first couple years of the New 52 Aquaman book and I don't even recall her making an appearance in flashback. Is casting Nicole just stunt casting to add a bit of prestige to the cast? Is this just a small cameo?

Atlanta can be a significant role in the Aquaman universe. I suspect that she, and Orm, will have smaller roles in this film and the sequel will feature the clash of her sons more prominently.

One thing I don't care for is focusing too much on the parents of the heroes. Some of them are responsible for the heroes themselves, but others roles are getting played up too much IMO. Maybe it's just me, and I don't care for the family baggage, and would prefer to focus on a great villain. But I guess when we're telling origin stories it's a necessary evil, at least to the studios.

I like Nicole Kidman, so I'll reserve final judgement until I see the film, but...

Veteran superhero actor Dolph Lundgren has been cast in DC Films' Aquaman as King Nereus of Xebel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
