I'm totally confused by this project now. Last I heard the live action Justice League Dark film was canceled in favor of an animated feature. So I'm assuming with this development we have two independent projects going now?

Correct, the animated movie will be released much before this live action version though.
Since Doug Liman's recent two movies were with Tom Cruise, there is speculation on whether Cruise might get attached to this project as well.

I know he's voicing Constantine in the animated feature but I'd love to see Matt Ryan in the live action film role as well. It better not be Cruise.
