Standard Comics' TNT Todd/Cyborilla Hostess Fruit Pies ad, 1979

Various Titles (February, 1979)
"TNT Todd in Angry Ape Attack!"

A series of Hostess ads featuring super-heroes, super-villains, and tasty desert treats appeared in comics from 1977-1982. Although the "nutritious" nature of the snacks is ... debatable, the ads are remembered fondly by that generation, when super-hero comics were fun, not brooding and dismember-y.

Of course, Standard Comics ran its fair share of them. This one features that Simian Savant, the Mighty Cyborilla during one of his schemes. That is, until he is foiled by the ingenuity of TNT Todd -- and the deliciousness of Hostess Fruit Pies.

The ad was featured in February issues of 1979, including "Optima" #55, "Standard Comics Team-Up" #190, "The Sentinels" #204, and "UltraMan" #42.

Setting the Standard in Nutritious (?) Treats

~~~~~~~~~~
Yup. Well, if Standard Comics were a real thing, there'd be ads, right?
Public domain super-hero TNT Todd battles my own Cyborilla. Fun times.
Gorillas are like vegetarians (or, predominantly herbivorous according to Wikipedia) ... and the filling resembles real foods.
A collection of the real ads can be found here:
The Fraims provide their own delicious treat, this time with color (markers)!
Standard Comics Team-Up #193 Dreadhelm vs Optima and Black Orchid
Standard Comics Team-Up #193 (May 1979)
"Vox Incubus"
After kidnapping one of the world's leading virologists and sapping his mind of its knowledge, Dreadhelm threatened to loose a plague upon Australia after they rejected his "offer" to annex their nation. "I will send my plague upon your heart, and upon your people; that you may know that there is none like me in all the earth!"
~~
Dave Bednarski comes through again on this nifty issue of the SCU's team-up book.
Lower resolution than the final product will be; specifically an honest to gosh Print On Demand comic book. For me and all .. 3-4 others that might want one. But - a comic.
