Agreed. I just joined a group on Facebook and I'm blown away.

There alot of talented sculptors, but often most of the custom groups are

1. Out of Scale
2. Crazy huge base concepts
3. Never look like the prototype
4. Expensive
5. Require master painter to really make it look amazing (factory paint jobs usually are medicore/good at best)
6. High risk to getting ripped off
7. Shipping from china is crazy expensive
8. Take longer to make than SS

Everyone jumped to hate this silver surfer, but its pretty great for a museum pose. Thanos on throne and This Silver surfer are perfect companions to one another. It's kinda like the VS screen in a video game. Plus they both have a decent foot print to leave you room for other statues. (customs would end up taking the space of 2-3 PFs)

If you have the real estate, then maybe you should hold out for XM, there Thanos is huge and more dynamic and i'm sure Silver surfer will be as well.

If your all time fav character is done by your all time fav sculptor and your willing to plunk down 2-3K on one statue, then by all means the custom route maybe for you.

I wasn't campaigning for customs. I just said I saw a custom that looks better than any Surfer I've seen. I never said I would buy a custom either for some of the reasons you mentioned. But I have seen a good amount of in hand pics of customs and they looked amazing.

Oh i know you were not, just trying to let others know that customs aren't all that they are cracked up to be. But yes i've seen some customs that look amazing, and the custom master painted ones look fantastic.

Just saying for others who don't know what custom entails and the cost. Then get mad the $700 dollar SS Silver Surfer isn't as great as those, as they expected.

Both the museum and action Surfers are quintessential Surfer statues as far as I'm concerned. IMO, no one does the Surfer better than Randy. His Surfer is the perfect mix of Jack Kirby and John Buscema. For me, Randy's Surfer is perfection.

I don't know. Sales must be good for them to set that edition size.
