I don't know what to think of this. Originally, to me, it looked like it was mostly sculpted with a small amount of fur added as an accent. After majestic1 made the comment about mud effect on fur, I could see it being all fur with a lot of paint matting it down so that it looks sculpted. I would take a fully furred statue or a fully sculpted statue, but I won't take a sculpted statue that looks like it has lint on it. If that fur is just sort of sprinkled on there, can you imagine the mess we'll get on the production pieces.

If the movie was not that well received, is there really a demand for this line? This one has got me scratching my junk.

I'm not sure I agree with it not being well received. It did pretty well at the box office for the type of movie it was. A lot of the people who liked this movie are fans of the Japanese kaiju genre which this is squarely aimed at. After the next Godzilla movie which really establishes giant monsters as a given, Godzilla and Kong will go toe to toe.

BTW, here's a vinyl figure made by X-Plus which looks totally fine as a completely sculpted piece.

I don't think Kong:Skull Island was as good as Peter Jackson's King Kong, but it did earn close to 600 million with a 75% Rotten Tomatoes rating and those are solid numbers. Keep in mind a Godzilla vs Kong tie-in movie is also in the works which isn't going to hurt Kong's popularity.

Looks fantastic. Will need to see close-ups before I make a final decision though. I can only imagine the pricing on this.

Kong looks amazing but I'm expecting a "Wonder Woman on horse" kind of price

This looks pretty amazing. I stand by my previous comment about the real fur though. I think it looks great as an accent on the proto here, but I have no confidence that the factory will take the time necessary to properly replicate that on the production pieces. The hair looks like it has literally been applied one or at most several at a time. Who at the factory is going to do that? And, assuming you don't have a case large enough to display this, how are you going to avoid knocking some of that fur off when dusting it?
