Fox Samples on Sideshow Art Boxes

Has anybody ever come across sideshow collectibles Fox Samples? Rather than having a designated number it just says fox sample on the art box. Was this quite a common practice over the years related to Fox licensed pieces?

yes ive seen them before, the ones i saw were for the old X3 maquettes

I wonder if there is any actual difference with them or would they just be exactly the same as a numbered edition.

Exactly the same. I have a bunch of proofs - statues, prints, canvases. They're all the same quality.
