I also like mixed media on movie pieces, because movie pieces require realism to capture the look. So fabric texture goes a long way.
Comic pieces, on the other hand, aren't capturing realism, they're capturing comic art, so realism shouldn't really come into play. Which is why I've never understood the realism argument when it comes to strictly comic pieces. You want comic pieces to look like comic art, and fabric doesn't help with that.
