It's obviously a clever way to use a racial slur disguised as a "figure of speech". Some jerk off writer thought they were being cute.
They could have easily used the words "weakest link".

That's an absolutely awful headline. As a person who has written headlines every day for more than 20 years, there is no way a thinking journalist writes that headline without considering who it's about. You may think the wording is no big deal, but journalists are paid to avoid wording that becomes a big deal unnecessarily. Journalists MUST consider every way a phrase can be taken before it's published. That's Journalism 101. ESPN's quick apology was absolutely necessary.

The backlash against the headline was not an example of anyone playing the "race card." It's a piss-poor headline that comes across as racist. Intent doesn't matter -- the apology does -- as I'm sure ESPN agrees.

Yeah. I wonder if that was more racist than assuming he's black. And also plays football

Guess I should be mad since I am from the same country with Lin? I am not surprise how people look at him, it's Asian and play good basketball, there is always "color" problem in USA, people talk about this is because he is a hot player now and is from espn sport channel. But this kind story happen all the time in school or job.
