Bronson - 6/10
Interesting but strange film. On the one hand you have a brilliant performance by Tom Hardy, stylish Direction by Nicolas Winding Refn and a great retro soundtrack. On the other hand you have a film thats essentially a character study of a fairly one dimensional man which failed to engage me as much as I'd hoped.

You're hammerin' out Refn movies lately, Scott; good times. Sometimes I go on a Director or Producer "kick" and watch everything they've done that I can get my hands on.
Netflix, internet, blah blah makes it easy, but I miss the days of video stores with 5,000 movies, most of them incredibly obscure, that you could find a random gem in, and branch out from there.
Still have the promo copy of Dreamhouse sitting here. Might pop it in later since I haven't yet watched it.. I guess there's been worse films (RT's score says it all). I usually judge for myself, but 7% is BRUTAL.

Saw a few movies over the weekend
Don't be scared of the Dark: 5/10 I really liked some things about the movie, but the ending was weak. Good Saturday afternoon movie to lounge and watch.
The Artist - 9/10. I look foward to watching this again. If this wins the Academy Award for best picture, it will deserve it. Loved every second of it.
My three favorite movies of 2011 were Hugo, The Artist, and Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The Muppets is also up there. :-)

Yeah, I do this all the time, especially with Directors.
I really want to watch Refn's Pusher Trilogy. Haven't heard much about them though. That said the fact that they aren't on BD hasn't made them a priority for me yet, being the HD snob that I am.

Same here; the only dvds I still have are films/series that haven't come to BD yet. I bet most people on SF are in the same boat.

6.5/10
A pleasant and heartfelt movie, but ultimately saccharine. While the overload of schmaltz and escapism from the economic turmoil of 2012 will probably secure this the Best Picture nod, it's a far inferior film to some of its fellow nominees. GROSSLY overrated, very much deserves Best Screenplay though.
The ironic thing is, Bejo is completley deserving of the Best Actress Oscar yet will lose it to Streep

Colombiana - 6/10
Fairly average assassin/revenge film. Pretty shallow narrative but there are some decent elements even if its a bit far fetched at times. Léon this is not but I've certainly seen worse.

How could something grossly overrated very much deserve the best screenplay Oscar?

The movie is overrated Charles, not the screenplay
And in adittion to that, labelling something overrated does not also make it bad I believe The Beatles are overrated. They still had some amazing songs and an amazing career as a group, but IMO they're overrated
